Do You Need a Dehumidifier?

With the summer months finally here, you can enjoy some warmth after the long winter for a change of pace. However, this weather comes with its fair share of drawbacks, which can affect your home’s indoor air quality. Warm air is rich in moisture that can make the air feel humid, damp and sticky, which can make you feel uncomfortable. In addition, it can cause health issues and damage your walls and ceiling. Thankfully, you can purchase a dehumidifier to reduce the moisture density at home.

In this post, the top AC and furnace repair expert, Econoair Heating & Cooling Inc, shares the signs that you need a dehumidifier.

You find condensation on different surfaces. Condensation is usually a sign that there’s a dense volume of moisture in your home. This occurs when the season transitions from winter to summer as the temperature rises. Surfaces that are primarily cold, like window panes and walls with low insulation, will allow water to condense due to the hot air indoors and tarnish the surfaces around your house.

You lack indoor ventilation. Your AC repair expert suggests that heat is directly related to your home’s indoor humidity. If you don’t have windows with good insulation and energy efficiency, then hot air can enter with ease, filling your living space with moisture. The same can also be said for drafty doors and vents. You need to have proper ventilation to get rid of moisture.

Damp basements. If you have high humidity indoors, this will be readily noticeable when you get to your basement. Even if you have a good HVAC unit, it might not reach your basement, which could lead to condensation buildup in this space. It’s a good idea to add a dehumidifier to your basement to keep moisture levels in check.
