How to Stay Cool When Your Air Conditioner Breaks Down

During the summer months, your air conditioning unit will be more in demand than ever. As such, it will be used more and will be at a greater risk of malfunctioning if overused. The last thing you want is for your AC to break down during the hot summer months. However, if it does, there are a few things air conditioner installation and repair experts recommend doing to stay cool while you wait for them to arrive.

  • Drink cold beverages. One of the most important things to do every day is to keep yourself hydrated, especially if it’s very hot outside. Make sure that you drink enough water to keep yourself cool and hydrated.

  • Take a cold shower. Taking a cold shower or bath will help lower your body temperature when the heat get to be too much. This will help you feel refreshed while waiting for your AC repair contractor to arrive.

  • Lower your shades. You should close your blinds, lower the shades and shut the curtains during the summer months.  This will block out the sunlight and effectively reduce the heat you feel inside your house.

  • Hang wet sheets over your windows. One classic trick that always works is using the outdoor air that’s entering your house. You can hang wet sheets over your windows to create a cool breeze as the heat from the air is absorbed by the water in the sheets.

  • Reduce the number of lights turned on. During the day, if you don’t need much light, try to keep the lights off. Remember that they emit heat, so try to keep as many off as possible to keep your home comfortable.
