The HVAC industry is bracing for significant changes as new tariffs on imported goods and materials are expected to take effect in 2025. With a proposed 25% tariff on Canadian imports, including essential components used in HVAC manufacturing, homeowners and businesses alike will see rising costs on heating and cooling equipment.

The proposed tariffs primarily affect steel, aluminum, and key electronic components, all of which are critical for manufacturing furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps. As production costs rise, manufacturers will pass these increases down the supply chain, resulting in higher prices for distributors, contractors, and ultimately, consumers.
Steel and aluminum are essential materials used in HVAC systems for:
✔ Heat exchangers in furnaces
✔ Ductwork and vents
✔ Unit casings for air conditioners and heat pumps
With the 25% tariff, HVAC manufacturers will pay significantly more for these raw materials, leading to an estimated 15-30% price increase on new HVAC systems.
👉 Industry experts predict that even minor repairs involving metal components could become more expensive due to increased material costs.
Modern HVAC systems rely on imported electronic components like:
✔ Circuit boards
✔ Smart thermostats
✔ Sensors and controllers
These parts are often sourced from China and Mexico, both of which have been affected by U.S. import tariffs. With increased costs on electronic components, high-efficiency systems with smart features may see price hikes of 20-40% in the coming months.
Refrigerant prices have already been rising due to environmental regulations, and new tariffs will exacerbate the issue. Homeowners with older A/C units that use phased-out refrigerants may find that repairs and refrigerant refills become even more costly.
🔹 If your air conditioner is 10+ years old, now might be the best time to upgrade before prices increase further!
With manufacturers scrambling to adjust to higher costs, supply chain disruptions are inevitable. As a result:
✔ Popular HVAC models may sell out faster
✔ Lead times on installations could increase
✔ Homeowners may have fewer options when choosing a new system
🔹 What This Means for You: If you’re considering upgrading, buying sooner rather than later ensures you secure the equipment you need before stock runs out or prices surge.
✅ Upgrade Before the Price Increases – Lock in today’s prices before tariffs take full effect.
✅ Take Advantage of Rebates & Discounts – Many government rebates and manufacturer promotions are still available but may not last.
✅ Consider Financing Options – Many HVAC companies, including Econoair, offer flexible financing to make upgrading more affordable.

Tariffs on steel, aluminum, and electronic components could cause HVAC equipment prices to rise by 20-40%, making new systems significantly more expensive.
While the exact timeline is uncertain, tariff-related HVAC price increases are expected in the coming months as manufacturers adjust to higher material costs.

Randy Davis2025-11-23Furnace stopped working the night before, got up to a cool house. Checked out the HVAC and found it was not working. Called Econoair for a service call and was told someone would be here by 11.00 am to 12.00pm. Dani came about 11.50 am and immediately discovered that the motor wasn’t working and upon further found the heat exchanger was cracked. We discussed possible fixes and decided to put in a new furnace at which time he said it would be late afternoon till early evening depending when the crew finished up a job they were on. Crew showed up at 7.45pm and started to work. Crew was efficient and friendly and finished the job, cleaned up and left at 11.30pm. Great job by a great company and a good price.
