The HVAC industry is facing significant changes as new tariffs on imported goods and materials are set to take effect. Recently, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, which includes essential materials used in HVAC manufacturing. However, there has been conflicting news about when these tariffs will be implemented and how severely they will impact the industry. Some reports suggest the tariffs could take effect immediately, while others indicate possible delays or modifications. Regardless of the exact timeline, one thing is clear: these tariffs will drive up the cost of heating and cooling equipment, leading to potential price increases of 20-40% in the coming months. If you’re considering upgrading or replacing your HVAC system, now is the time to act before these tariffs make new systems significantly more expensive.
The proposed tariffs target key materials used in HVAC manufacturing, including steel, aluminum, and various components sourced from international suppliers. As manufacturers absorb these increased costs, they will pass them down the supply chain to distributors, contractors, and ultimately, homeown
Steel and aluminum are essential materials in HVAC equipment, from heat exchangers to ductwork and unit casings. According to a recent report from The Globe and Mail, “The Canadian government has raised concerns over U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, warning that these measures will disrupt industries that rely heavily on these materials, including HVAC manufacturing.”
Many HVAC components, including circuit boards, sensors, and refrigerant parts, are imported. CBC News reports that “the increased cost of imported goods from China and Mexico due to U.S. tariffs is likely to affect Canadian businesses and consumers alike.”
With these rising costs, the price of HVAC systems is expected to increase dramatically, making early replacement a financially smart decision.
If your furnace, heat pump, or air conditioner is over 10 years old, you could be facing significantly higher replacement costs in the near future. Delaying your decision could mean paying hundreds or even thousands more for the same equipment in just a few months.
HVAC industry experts predict that tariffs will cause an across-the-board price hike for all heating and cooling equipment. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) has warned that “the upcoming tariffs could lead to a considerable increase in HVAC prices, making it crucial for consumers to act now before the cost rises.”
With increased demand from homeowners rushing to upgrade before prices go up, inventory shortages are becoming a real concern. Some manufacturers have already reported delays in production and distribution. If you wait too long, you may find yourself unable to get the system you want, when you need it.
With the tariffs looming, HVAC manufacturers will pass increased costs down the supply chain, leading to higher prices for consumers. Locking in today’s prices can save you thousands on a new system.
Due to high demand and potential supply chain disruptions, HVAC equipment may become harder to find. By upgrading now, you ensure you get the system you want before stock runs low or prices surge.
Current rebates for high-efficiency HVAC systems may not last forever. Installing a new system now ensures you can benefit from these savings before they are reduced or eliminated.
If your system is over 10 years old, it’s more likely to break down when you need it most. Avoid costly emergency repairs by upgrading to a reliable, high-efficiency system now.

Randy Davis2025-11-23Furnace stopped working the night before, got up to a cool house. Checked out the HVAC and found it was not working. Called Econoair for a service call and was told someone would be here by 11.00 am to 12.00pm. Dani came about 11.50 am and immediately discovered that the motor wasn’t working and upon further found the heat exchanger was cracked. We discussed possible fixes and decided to put in a new furnace at which time he said it would be late afternoon till early evening depending when the crew finished up a job they were on. Crew showed up at 7.45pm and started to work. Crew was efficient and friendly and finished the job, cleaned up and left at 11.30pm. Great job by a great company and a good price.
